"Intercede and you will be rewarded. I sometimes intend to do something but delay it so that you may intercede and be rewarded, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Intercede and you will be rewarded.'"
اشفعوا تؤجروا فإني لأريد الأمر فأؤخره كيما تشفعوا فتؤجروا فإن رسول الله ﷺ قال: اشفعوا تؤجروا.
Abu Dawud (5132) and Nasai (2557) both narrated it through the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna, from Amr bin Dinar, from Wahb bin Munabbi, from his brother, from Muawiya, and he related it as mentioned. The wording given is that of Abu Dawud.As for Nasai's version, he made Muawiya's statement a raised report (marfu), with the wording, "A man asks me for something and I refuse him until you intercede for him, so that you may be rewarded." Then he said, "And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Intercede, so that you may be rewarded.'"It appears that an error occurred in the copy of Nasai's text, because the flow of the wording indicates that the raised (marfu) portion is only his saying, "Intercede, so that you may be rewarded."
