The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no envy except in two cases. A man whom Allah has given the Quran, and he recites it throughout the night and throughout the day, so another says, 'If I were given the like of what this man has been given, I would do as he does.' And a man whom Allah has given wealth, and he spends it rightfully, so another says, 'If I were given the like of what this man has been given, I would do as he does.'"
قال رسول الله ﷺ: لا حسد إلا في اثنتين: رجل أتاه الله القرآن فهو يتلوه آناء الليل وآناء النهار، فهو يقول: لو أوتيت مثل ما أوتي هذا، لفعلت كما يفعل، ورجل آتاه الله مالا فهو ينفقه في حقه، فهو يقول: لو أوتيت مثل ما أوتي هذا لفعلت كما يفعل.
Abu Yaala (1085) narrated it from Uthman, who said, Yahya bin Adam told us, Yazid bin Abdul-Aziz told us, from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Saeed, and he related it.Its chain is sahih. Yazid bin Abdul-Aziz is Ibn Siyah al-Asadi al-Hamani, a trustworthy narrator among the men of the two Sahihs.Imam Ahmad (10215) narrated it from Yahya bin Adam with his chain, except that he did not mention the wording of the hadith, but instead referred to the hadith of Abu Hurairah, saying, "Just like it." So it seems that Amash transmitted it through two routes from Abu Salih, who is Zakwan, from Abu Saeed, and from Abu Hurairah, with the same wording for both. Except that Abu Hatim held the view that the hadith belongs to Abu Hurairah. Al-Ilal (1672).Haythami mentioned it in al-Majma (2/257) and attributed it to Abu Yaala, saying, "Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih." Bazzar also narrated it, in similar fashion.
