Some bedouins came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Some of the zakat collectors come to us and treat us unjustly."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Satisfy your zakat collectors."In another narration, "When the zakat collector comes to you, let him leave pleased with you."
جاء ناس من الأعراب إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقالوا: إن ناسا من المصدقين يأتوننا فيظلموننا. قال: فقال رسول الله ﷺ: أرضوا مصدقيكم. وفي رواية: إذا أتاكم المصدق فليصدر عنكم وهو عنكم راض.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Zakat (989) through several chains from Muhammad bin Abu Ismail, who said, Abdul-Rahman bin Hilal Absi told us, from Jareer bin Abdullah, and he mentioned it.The second narration, he narrated at the end through several chains from Ismail bin Ibrahim, who said, Dawud informed us, from Shaybi, from Jareer bin Abdullah, and he mentioned it. Jareer said, "No zakat collector has ever left me since I heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except that he was pleased with me."As for what has been reported from him as a raised hadith, "When the zakat collector comes to you, do not conceal anything from him. If he treats you fairly, that is good for him, and if he treats you unjustly, that is good for you and bad for him," the correct view is that it is a stopped report.Shaybani narrates it, and there is disagreement over his version. Abu Muawiya Darir narrated it from Shaybani, from Shaybi, from Jareer, from the Prophet ﷺ, as raised, which is what Mahdi bin Hafs said on his authority. But others who narrated from him did not raise it to the Prophet, and the stopped version is more sahih. Daraqutni said this in Al-Ilal (13/444).
