Imam Ahmad narrated it (9221, 9232) by two routes from Abdullah bin Mubarak, who said, Mamar informed us, he said, Suhayl bin Abu Salih narrated to me, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.As for what has been narrated from Abu Saeed Khudri as a raised hadith, "A wasq is sixty sa," it is daif because of a break in the chain. Abu Dawud narrated it (1559), and Nasai (5/40), and Ibn Majah (1832), and Ibn Khuzayma in his Sahih (2310), all of them through the route of Abu Bakhtari, from Abu Saeed, and he related it. But Abu Bakhtari did not hear from Abu Saeed, as Abu Dawud stated.The wording in Ibn Khuzayma's version is, "A wasq is sixty sealed measures." He said, "By 'sealed' he means the sa," and he added, "There is no disagreement among the scholars that a wasq is sixty sa."I say, the minimum threshold for crops and fruits is five wasqs, which today amounts to approximately 653 kilograms, if a sa is taken to equal 2 kilograms and 176 grams. This is how Dr. Qaradawi calculated it in his book Fiqh Zakat (1/371-373).
