The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever dies while stationed at the frontier in the cause of Allah will continue to receive the reward of the righteous deeds he used to perform, his sustenance will continue to be granted to him, he will be safe from the trial of the grave, and Allah will raise him on the Day of Resurrection secure from the great terror."
Ibn Majah (2767) narrated it from Yunus bin Abdul-Ala, who said, Abdullah bin Wahb told us, Layth informed me, from Zahra bin Mabad, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, who mentioned it.In this chain is the father of Zahra, namely Mabad bin Abdullah Taymi, whom no one has affirmed as reliable. Ibn Hibban merely mentioned him in Thiqat (5/433), and that is why Hafiz said of him, "acceptable," meaning if corroborated. He has indeed been corroborated by what Imam Ahmad narrated (9244) from Musa bin Dawud, who said, Ibn Lahia told us, from Musa bin Wardan, from Abu Hurairah, as a raised report, with this wording, "Whoever dies while stationed on the frontier is protected from the trial of the grave, is made safe from the greatest terror, provisions from Paradise are brought to him morning and evening, and he is credited with the reward of one stationed on the frontier until the Day of Resurrection." In this chain is Ibn Lahia, about whom there is well-known discussion, but it has become clear from this corroboration that he did not confuse his narrations in this particular hadith. As for what Ibn Abu Asim narrated in the Book of Jihad (297), and Tabarani in Awsat (9308), both by way of Abdul-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam, from his father, from Ata bin Yasar, from Abu Hurairah, as a raised report, with this wording, "Whoever dies while stationed on the frontier will have his provision brought to him from Paradise, his deeds will continue to grow for him until the Day of Resurrection, and he will be protected from the trials of the grave." In this chain is Abdul-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam, who is daif. Imam Ahmad, Nasai, and Abu Zura all judged him daif, and Ibn Hibban said in Majruhin, "He used to reverse reports without realizing it."The rest of the hadiths concerning the mention of ribat and its merit will come later in the Book of Jihad.
