The Prophet ﷺ heard a voice from a grave and asked, "When did this person die?"They replied, "He died during the days of ignorance."He was pleased by that and said, "Were it not that you would cease burying your dead, I would have asked Allah to make you hear the punishment of the grave."
أن النبي ﷺ سمع صوتا من قبر فقال: متى مات هذا؟ قالوا: مات في الجاهلية، فسر بذلك وقال: لولا أن لا تدافنوا لدعوت الله أن يسمعكم عذاب القبر.
Nasai (2058) narrated it from Suwayd bin Nasr, who said, Abdullah told us, from Humayd, from Anas, who related it. Its chain is sahih, and Ibn Hibban (3126) also graded it sahih. Bayhaqi also transmitted it in Ithbat Azab Qabr (91), all of them through the route of Humayd Tawil, from Anas, who related the hadith.In the narration of Ahmad (12007), from Ibn Abu Adi, from Humayd, from Anas, he said, "The Prophet ﷺ entered one of the orchards of Madinah belonging to Banu Najjar, and heard a voice from a grave, so he asked about it," and he related the account.His going out was to relieve himself, as stated in the narration of Imam Ahmad (12096), with a sahih chain.
