Harith bin Suwayd reported,

Abdullah, that is Ibn Masud, narrated to us two reports, one from the Prophet ﷺ and the other from himself.Ibn Masud said, "The believer sees his sins as though he were sitting beneath a mountain, fearing that it might fall upon him, while the wicked one sees his sins as a fly that passes over his nose, and he simply waves it away like this." Abu Shihab gestured with his hand above his nose.Then Ibn Masud reported from the Prophet ﷺ, "Allah is more delighted at the repentance of His believing servant than a man who stops to rest at a place full of danger, having his mount with him carrying his food and drink. He lays down his head and dozes off, then wakes to find his mount gone. He searches until the heat and thirst become unbearable, or as long as Allah wills, then he says, 'I shall return to my spot.' So he goes back, sleeps for a while, and when he raises his head, there is his mount standing beside him."

عن الحارث بن سويد قال

حدثنا عبد الله- يعني ابن مسعود- حديثين أحدهما عن النبي ﷺ، والآخر عن نفسه، قال (يعني ابن مسعود): إن المؤمن يرى ذنوبه كأنه قاعد تحت جبل يخاف أن يقع عليه، وإن الفاجر يرى ذنوبه كذباب مر على أنفه فقال له هكذا- قال أبو شهاب بيده فوق أنفه. ثم قال (يعني ابن مسعود عن النبي ﷺ): لله أفرح بتوبة عبده المؤمن من رجل نزل منزلا وبه مهلكة، ومعه راحلته عليها طعامه وشرابه، فوضع رأسه فنام نومة، فاستيقظ، وقد ذهبت راحلته، حتى اشتد عليه الحر والعطش أو ما شاء الله، قال: أرجع إلى مكاني، فرجع فنام نومة، ثم رفع رأسه فإذا راحلته عنده.
