Two old women from the elderly Jewish women of Madinah came to visit me and said to me, "The people of the graves are punished in their graves." I did not believe them and was not inclined to accept what they said. They left, and then the Prophet ﷺ came in to see me.I said to him, "Messenger of Allah, two old women..." and I told him what they had said.He replied, "They spoke the truth. They are indeed punished with a punishment that all the animals can hear."After that, I never saw him perform a prayer without seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave.
دخل علي عجوزان من عجز يهود المدينة فقالتا لي: إن أهل القبور يعذبون في قبورهم، فكذبتهما، ولم أنعم أن أصدقهما، فخرجتا، ودخل علي النبي ﷺ فقلت له يا رسول الله! إن عجوزين وذكرت له، فقال: صدقتا إنهم يعذبون عذابا تسمعه البهائم كلها، فما رأيته بعد في صلاة إلا تعوذ من عذاب القبر.
