The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no slaughtering at graves in Islam."Abdul-Razzaq explained, "They used to slaughter a cow or a sheep at the grave."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: لا عقر في الإسلام. قال عبد الرزاق: كانوا يعقرون عند القبر ببقرة أو شاة.
Abu Dawud (3222) narrated it from Yahya bin Musa Balkhi, who said, Abdul-Razzaq narrated to us, Mamar informed us, from Thabit, from Anas, and he mentioned it. The hadith appears in Musannaf Abdul-Razzaq (6690) at greater length. As for the statement attributed to Abdul-Razzaq that Abu Dawud mentioned, I did not find it in his Musannaf.Regarding his words, "and no hamstringing," Sindi said, "Hamstringing means striking the legs of a camel or sheep with a sword while it is standing. They used to hamstring camels at the graves of the dead, that is, slaughter them, saying, 'The owner of this grave used to slaughter animals for his guests, so we repay him in kind.'"Nawawi said in Majmu (320/5), "As for slaughtering and hamstringing at the grave, it is blameworthy, based on this hadith of Anas."Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi narrated it, and he said, "Hasan sahih."I say, attributing this to Tirmidhi is a mistake on his part, may Allah have mercy on him.
