Anas bin Malik reported to us from Abu Talha, who said, "On the day of Badr, when the Prophet of Allah ﷺ had gained victory over them, he ordered that twenty-odd men, and in another narration, twenty-four men, from the chiefs of Quraysh, be cast into one of the wells of Badr."
ذكر لنا أنس بن مالك، عن أبي طلحة قال: لما كان يوم بدر، وظهر عليهم نبي الله ﷺ أمر ببضعة وعشرين رجلا- وفي رواية: بأربعة وعشرين رجلا- من صناديد قريش، فألقوا طوي من أطواء بدر.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Military Expeditions (3976), and Muslim in the Book of Paradise (2875), both from the hadith of Rawh bin Ubada, who said, "Saeed bin Abu Aruba narrated to us, from Qatada," and he mentioned it within a longer account, which will come in full in the Book of Military Expeditions.In another version, "So they dragged them by their feet."His saying "fi tawiyy" is with a fatha on the ta and a kasra on the waw, meaning a well lined with stones or other material. Its plural is atwaa, like sharif and ashraf.
