We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for the funeral of a man from the Ansar. We reached the grave, but the niche had not yet been dug. The Prophet ﷺ sat down facing the qiblah, and we sat with him.
خرجنا مع رسول الله ﷺ في جنازة رجل من الأنصار، فانتهينا إلى القبر، ولم يلحد بعد، فجلس النبي ﷺ مستقبل القبلة، وجلسنا معه.
Reported by Abu Dawud (3212), Nasai (2001), and Ibn Majah (1549), all through the route of Minhal bin Amr, from Zazan, from Bara, who related the hadith, the wording being that of Abu Dawud. Ibn Majah added, "It was as if birds were perched on our heads." Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Minhal bin Amr, for his hadith is hasan.
