I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "When one of you dies and the means are available, let him be shrouded in a striped Yemeni garment."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: إذا توفي أحدكم فوجد شيئا فليكفن في ثوب حبرة.
Abu Dawud (3150) narrated it from Hasan bin Sabbah Bazzar, who said, Ismail (meaning Ibn Abdul-Kareem) told us, Ibrahim bin Aqeel bin Maqil told me, from his father, from Wahb bin Munabbi, from Jabir, who said, then he mentioned it. Its isnad is hasan on account of Ibrahim bin Aqeel, who is "truthful." As for his father, Aqeel bin Maqil, although the Hafiz said of him "truthful," Ahmad and Ibn Main and others considered him reliable.Imam Ahmad (14601) narrated it by another route from Jabir, in which the Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever finds it difficult should be shrouded in a striped garment." In its isnad is Ibn Lahia, who said, Abu Zubayr told us, from Jabir, then he mentioned it. There is some discussion regarding Ibn Lahia.
