The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to us when his daughter had died and said, "Wash her three times, or five, or more than that if you see fit, with water and lotus leaves, and put camphor, or a touch of camphor, in the final wash. When you are finished, let me know."She said, "When we finished, we informed him, and he handed us his waist-wrapper and said, 'Wrap her in this next to her body.'"By his "haqw" she meant his waist-wrapper.
دخل علينا رسول الله ﷺ حين توفيت ابنته، فقال: اغسلنها ثلاثا، أو خمسا أو أكثر من ذلك، إن رأيتن ذلك بماء وسدر، واجعلن في الآخرة كافورا، أو شيئا من كافور، فإذا فرغتن فاذنني قالت: فلما فرغنا آذناه، فأعطانا حقوه، فقال: أشعرنها إياه تعني بحقوه: إزاره.
Malik narrated it in Janaiz (2), from Ayub bin Abu Tamima Sakhtiyani, from Muhammad bin Sirin, from Umm Atiya Ansariyah, and he related the hadith. Bukhari narrated it in Janaiz (1253) from Ismail bin Abdullah, and Muslim narrated it in Janaiz (38/939) from Qutayba bin Saeed, both of them from Malik bin Anas.As for what was narrated from Ibn Sirin, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever washes a deceased person should begin by pressing the abdomen," this is daif. Bayhaqi narrated it (3/388) and said, "This is mursal, and its narrator is daif." Nawawi agreed with him in Khulasa (3324).
