Ayesha reported,

When the news reached the Prophet ﷺ of the deaths of Ibn Haritha, Jafar, and Ibn Rawaha, he sat with grief visible upon him, and I was watching through the crack of the door.A man came to him and said, "The women of Jafar..." and mentioned their weeping. The Prophet ﷺ ordered him to forbid them, so he went off. Then the man came to him a second time, saying they had not obeyed him. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Forbid them."Then he came to him a third time and said, "By Allah, they have overwhelmed us, Messenger of Allah."She claimed that he then said, "Throw dust into their mouths."I said to myself, "May Allah rub your nose in the dirt. You did not carry out what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded you, and you did not spare the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from distress."
