We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man from the Ansar came and greeted him. Then the Ansari turned to leave, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Brother of the Ansar, how is my brother Saad bin Ubada?"He replied, "He is well."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then asked, "Who among you will visit him?"He stood up and we stood with him. We were just over ten in number, wearing no sandals, no leather socks, no caps, and no shirts. We walked through those salt flats until we reached him. His people moved back from around him so that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions with him could draw near.
كنا جلوسا مع رسول الله ﷺ إذ جاءه رجل من الأنصار فسلم عليه. ثم أدبر الأنصاري، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: يا أخا الأنصار! كيف أخي سعد بن عبادة؟ فقال: صالح. فقال رسول الله ﷺ: من يعوده منكم؟ فقام وقمنا معه، ونحن بضعة عشر، ما علينا نعال ولا خفاف ولا قلانس ولا قمص. نمشي في تلك السباخ حتى جئنا، فاستأخر قومه من حوله، حتى دنا رسول الله ﷺ وأصحابه الذين معه.
Muslim narrated it in Janaiz (925) from the hadith of Umara bin Ghaziya, from Saeed bin Harith bin Mualla, from Abdullah bin Umar, and he mentioned it.His saying, "sibakh," is the plural of "sabakha," like "kalibah." It refers to land covered with saline soil, which hardly grows anything except a few trees.
