Imam Ahmad (11180) and Bazzar in Kashf Astar (821) both narrated it via Yahya bin Saeed, from Muthanna bin Saeed, who said, Qatada narrated to us, from Abu Isa Aswari, from Abu Saeed, and he related it.Bukhari narrated it in Adab al-Mufrad (518) through another route from Qatada. Haythami mentioned it in Majma (293) and said, "Ahmad and Bazzar narrated it, and its narrators are trustworthy."I say, it is as he said, except that Ali bin Madini criticized Abu Isa Aswari, saying he was unknown. However, Tabarani said he was a trustworthy Basran, and Bazzar said he was a well-known Basran. Muslim also related a corroborating narration from him. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Thiqat, and included this hadith of his in his Sahih (2955). A group of narrators related from him, including Thabit Bunani, Qatada, Asim Ahwal, and others. Someone of his standing has his hadith graded hasan. As for the statement of Ali bin Madini, it should be understood to mean that he simply was not widely known, and Allah knows best.
