Ibn Khuzayma narrated it in Kitab Tawhid (62) from Ahmad bin Abdah Sabi, who said, Hammad bin Zayd informed us, from Matar Warraq, from Abdullah bin Burayda, from Yahya bin Yamar, who said, "When Mabad Juhani spoke about predestination" and he related the hadith at length, and in the report Abdullah bin Umar said, "Umar bin Khattab narrated to me," and he related the hadith. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of the discussion surrounding Matar Warraq, though his hadith is hasan.The hadith of Umar bin Khattab appears in Sahih Muslim, in Kitab Iman (8), by way of Kahmas, from Abdullah bin Burayda, except that it does not mention the story of the disputation between Adam and Musa. However, Muslim also narrated it from other teachers, among them Ahmad bin Abdah, who was also a teacher of Ibn Khuzayma, they said, Hammad bin Zayd narrated to us, with his chain. Muslim said, "They related the hadith with the same meaning as the hadith of Kahmas and his chain, containing some addition and omission of wording." End of quote. Perhaps he was pointing to this addition found in Ibn Khuzayma's version.Lalikai also narrated it in Usul Itiqad (1037) by another route, from Mutamir bin Sulayman, from his father, from Yahya bin Yamar, from Ibn Umar, from Umar bin Khattab, relating something similar. The author attributed it to Muslim, from Hajjaj bin Shayr, from Yunus bin Muhammad, from Mutamir, saying it this way. But Muslim related this chain in Kitab Iman (4/8) without mentioning the wording of the hadith that Lalikai mentioned, rather he simply referred back to the earlier version, and it contains no mention of the story of Adam and Musa, so take note of this.It has also been reported from Ibn Umar that he said, "Allah created four things with His hand, the Throne, the Gardens of Eden, Adam, and the Pen, and He veiled Himself from creation with four things, fire and darkness, and light and darkness." This was narrated by Hakim in Mustadrak (2/319), and by way of him Bayhaqi in Asma wa Sifat (693), from the hadith of Sufyan bin Saeed, from Ubayd Katib Muktab, from Mujahid, from Ibn Umar, who related it. Hakim said, "This is a hadith with a sahih chain of transmission."I say, it is stopped at the level of Ibn Umar, and its chain of transmission is sahih. Dhahabi also included it in Uluww (169) by way of Abdul-Wahid bin Ziyad, from Ubayd Muktab, with an addition after the words "Allah created four things with His hand..." "Then He said to the rest of creation, 'Be,' and it was." And he said, its chain of transmission is good.
