The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw some phlegm on the qiblah wall of the mosque, and he became so angry that his face turned red. A woman from the Ansar got up, scraped it off, and put some perfume in its place. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "How excellent this is!"
رأى رسول الله ﷺ نخامة في قبلة المسجد، فغضب حتى احمر وجهه، فقامت امرأة من الأنصار فحكتها، وجعلت مكانها خلوقا. فقال رسول الله ﷺ: ما أحسن هذا!
Nasai (728) and Ibn Majah (762) both narrated it through Aid bin Habib, from Humayd, from Anas, who related the hadith. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Aid bin Habib, for he is truthful, even though he was accused of leaning toward Shiism. Imam Ahmad praised him, saying, "He was a dignified and sensible elder," and Ibn Main said, "Fairly sound." Juzjani criticized him, saying, "An extremist who has strayed."I say, extremism in leaning toward Shiism does not prevent the acceptance of a narrator's reports if he is truthful and trustworthy. Ibn Khuzayma also included it in his Sahih (1296) through this same route, except that he said, "A gharib hadith."
