The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would never return from a journey except during the daytime, in the forenoon. When he arrived, he would begin by going to the mosque, where he prayed two units of prayer and then sat there.
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان لا يقدم من سفر إلا نهارا في الضحى، فإذا قدم بدأ بالمسجد، فصلى فيه ركعتين، ثم جلس فيه.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Jihad and Expeditions (3088), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of the Prayer of Travelers (716), both through the route of Dahhak Abu Asim, from Ibn Jurayj, who said, Ibn Shihab informed me that Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Kaab informed him, from his father Abdullah bin Kaab, and from his uncle Ubaydullah bin Kaab, from Kaab, and he mentioned the same account. The wording given is Muslim's, while Bukhari's wording is that the Prophet ﷺ, whenever he arrived from a journey in the forenoon, would enter the masjid and pray two units of prayer before sitting down.
