While I was sitting in the state that Allah described, my soul having become constricted within me and the earth, vast as it is, having closed in upon me, I heard the voice of a caller who had climbed to the top of Mount Sala shouting at the top of his voice, "Kaab bin Malik, rejoice at the good news!"I fell down in prostration.
بينما أنا جالس على الحال التي ذكر الله، قد ضاقت علي نفسي، وضاقت علي الأرض بما رحبت سمعت صوت صارخ أوفى على جبل سلع بأعلى صوته: يا كعب بن مالك أبشر. قال: فخررت ساجدا.
Narrated by Bukhari in the Book of Military Expeditions (4418) and Muslim in the Book of Repentance (2769), both from the hadith of Zuhri, from Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Kaab bin Malik, that Abdullah bin Kaab bin Malik, who used to guide Kaab among his sons after he went blind, said, "I heard Kaab bin Malik narrating," and he related the story of his staying behind from Tabuk and the story of the acceptance of his repentance, in full.
