The Messenger of Allah ﷺ departed after the sun had become clear again. He then delivered a sermon, praising Allah as He deserves to be praised, and said, "To proceed."
فانصرف رسول الله ﷺ وقد تجلت الشمس، فخطب فحمد الله بما هو أهله ثم قال: أما بعد.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Eclipses (1061) with a suspended chain, saying, "Abu Usama said, Hisham narrated to us, saying, Fatimah bint Munzir informed me, from Asma," and he mentioned it in this abridged form.He gave it a full connected chain in the Book of Friday (922), saying, "Mahmud said, Abu Usama narrated to us," and he mentioned the hadith in full, in the story of the solar eclipse, as previously given.Mahmud is Ibn Ghaylan, one of Bukhari's teachers.Al-Hafiz said, "The wording of Abu Naeem in Mustakhraj suggests that he said, 'Mahmud narrated to us.'"Muslim narrated it in the Book of Eclipses (905) through another route from Hisham, with a similar chain of transmission. As for what has been narrated from Samura bin Jundab regarding ﷺ's sermon on the eclipse, in which he mentioned the saying of the Prophet ﷺ, "I am only a human messenger, so I remind you by Allah, if you know that I fell short in conveying any part of the messages of my Lord..." this contains Thalaba bin Abbad Abdi, who is unknown, and this has already been discussed in the chapters on Revelation. The jurisprudence of the Chapter on Eclipses includes the following issues.First, the ruling on the eclipse prayer. Answer, it is an emphasized sunnah for men and women.Second, how the eclipse prayer is performed. Answer, according to the most correct opinion among the scholars, it is recommended to pray as in the hadith of Ayesha and others, with two bowings in each rakat, meaning one prays four bowings in four prostrations.Third, what should be done if the prayer ends before the eclipse clears? Answer, if the prayer ends before the eclipse clears, he does not return to it, but rather remembers Allah and occupies himself with supplication, based on his ﷺ saying, "When you see that, call upon Allah, say Allahu Akbar, and give charity."This is because the purpose during an eclipse is the combination of the two things, prayer and supplication, and the purpose may be achieved through one of them, or it may not be, but once the eclipse clears, the purpose has been achieved.Fourth, what should be done if the eclipse clears while the prayer is still underway? Answer, he does not cut the prayer short, but rather completes it lightly.Fifth, when is the sermon delivered? Answer, the sermon comes after the eclipse prayer, and it is recommended according to the majority of scholars in their most correct opinion.
