Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a day of intense heat. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led his companions in prayer and prolonged the standing until they began to collapse. Then he bowed and made it long, then he rose and made it long, then he bowed again and made it long, then he rose and made it long, then he made two prostrations. Then he stood and did similarly. So it was four bowings and four prostrations.Then he said, "Everything you will enter was shown to me. Paradise was shown to me, so much so that had I reached out for one of its clusters I could have taken it." Or he said, "I reached out for one of its clusters but my hand fell short of it. And the Fire was shown to me, and I saw in it a woman from the Children of Israil being tormented because of a cat she had tied up, neither feeding it nor letting it eat from the vermin of the earth. And I saw Abu Tamama Amr Ibn Malik dragging his intestines in the Fire."They used to say that the sun and the moon are eclipsed only at the death of some great person. But they are two of the signs of Allah by which He shows you His power. So when they are eclipsed, pray until they become clear again."

عن جابر بن عبد الله قال

كسفت الشمس على عهد رسول الله ﷺ في يوم شديد الحر، فصلى رسول الله ﷺ بأصحابه، فأطال القيام، حتى جعلوا يخرون، ثم ركع فأطال، ثم رفع فأطال، ثم ركع فأطال، ثم رفع فأطال، ثم سجد سجدتين، ثم قام فصنع نحوا من ذاك. فكانت أربع ركعات وأربع سجدات ثم قال: إنه عرض علي كل شيء تولجونه، فعرضت علي الجنة، حتى لو تناولت منها قطفا أخذته (أو قال تناولت منها قطفا) فقصرت يدي عنه، وعرضت علي النار، فرأيت فيها امرأة من بني إسرائيل تعذب في هرة لها، ربطتها فلم تطعمها، ولم تدعها تأكل من حشاش الأرض، ورأيت أبا تمامة عمرو ابن مالك يجر قصبه في النار، وإنهم كانوا يقولون: إن الشمس والقمر لا يخسفان إلا لموت عظيم، وإنهما آيتان من آيات الله يريكموهما، فإذا خسفا فصلوا حتى ينجلى.
