The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the prayer for rain while wearing a black woolen cloak. He intended to take the lower part of it and turn it to the top, but when it became too heavy, he flipped it over his shoulders instead.
استسقى رسول الله ﷺ وعليه خميصة سوداء، فأراد أن يأخذ بأسفلها فيجعله أعلاها، فلما ثقلت قلبها على عاتقه.
Abu Dawud (1164) and Nasai (1507) both narrated it from Qutayba bin Saeed, who said, Abdul-Aziz narrated to us, from Umara bin Ghaziya, from Abbad bin Tamim, from Abdullah bin Zayd, and he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Umara bin Ghaziya, who is hasan al-hadith. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih (1415), and from him Ibn Hibban (2867). Hakim also narrated it (1/327), all of them through the route of Abdul-Aziz, that is, Ibn Muhammad Darawardi, with the same wording. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim."
