Some weeping people came to the Prophet ﷺ complaining of drought, so he said, "O Allah, give us rain that brings relief, wholesome and fertile, beneficial and not harmful, swift and not delayed."He said, "Then the sky covered them with rain."
أتت النبي ﷺ بواكي، فقال: اللهم اسقنا غيثا مغيثا مريئا مريعا نافعا غير ضار، عاجلا غير آجل قال: فأطبقت عليهم السماء.
Abu Dawud (1169) narrated it from Ibn Abu Khalaf, "Muhammad bin Ubayd narrated to us, Masaar narrated to us, from Yazid the Faqir, from Jabir bin Abdullah," and he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih, and Yazid the Faqir is Ibn Suhayb the Kufan, known as the Faqir. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih (1416), as did Hakim (1/327), and both narrated it through the route of Muhammad bin Ubayd Tanafisi from him. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaikhs."His words "bawaki" is the plural of "bakiyah" meaning weeping souls came, or weeping women.
