I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Allah said, 'My love is guaranteed for those who love one another for My sake, those who sit together for My sake, those who visit one another for My sake, and those who give to one another for My sake.'"
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: قال الله تبارك وتعالى: وجبت محبتي للمتحابين في، والمتجالسين في، والمتزاورين في، والمتبادليين في.
Malik reported it in al-Shir (16) from Abu Hazim bin Dinar, from Abu Idris Khawlani, who said, "I entered the masjid of Damascus, and there was a young man with bright, gleaming teeth, and the people were with him. Whenever they differed about something, they would refer it to him and defer to his opinion. So I asked about him, and I was told, 'This is Muaz bin Jabal.' The next day I went early to the masjid, but I found that he had beaten me to it, and I found him praying."He said, "So I waited for him until he finished his prayer, then I came to him from in front of him and greeted him, then I said, 'By Allah, I love you for the sake of Allah.' He said, 'By Allah?' I said, 'By Allah.' He said, 'By Allah?' I said, 'By Allah.' He said, 'By Allah?' I said, 'By Allah.'"He said, "Then he took hold of the fold of my garment and pulled me toward him, and said, 'Rejoice, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say...'" (then he mentioned the hadith). In another narration he said, "Those who love one another for the sake of Allah will be in the shade of the Throne on the Day of Resurrection."Imam Ahmad reported it (22031) from Rawh, who said, Hajjaj bin Aswad narrated to us, from Shahr bin Hawshab, from Muaz bin Jabal, and he related it. This chain contains Shahr bin Hawshab, about whom there is discussion, along with a break in the chain, since he did not meet Muaz. However, Tabarani reported it in al-Kabir (78/20), Bazzar in Bahr Zakhkhar (2672), and Abdullah bin Mubarak in al-Zuhd (715), all of them through the hadith of Abdul-Hameed bin Bahram, from Shahr bin Hawshab, who said, Aidhullah bin Abdullah narrated to me, saying, I said to Muaz bin Jabal, then he related the story. Aidhullah is Abu Idris Khawlani, and there is disagreement about whether he heard directly from Muaz bin Jabal, but the correct view is that he did hear from him, as the story reported by Malik indicates.Hakim recorded it (169/4) through another route from Abu Idris, from Muaz bin Jabal, and said, "This is a hadith that is sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, and Abu Idris combined, with a sahih chain, Muaz and Ubada bin Samit in this text."However, Daraqutni related in al-Ilal (71/6) from Muhammad bin Muslim Zuhri that he reported it from Abu Idris Khawlani, who said, "I met Ubada bin Samit and retained [what I heard] from him... and he said, I missed Muaz bin Jabal, but I was informed about him." Daraqutni then said, "The correct view is the view of Zuhri, because he was the most retentive of the group."He mentioned before him a group of scholars from Hijaz and Syria, among them Abu Hazim Salama bin Dinar, Walid bin Abdul-Rahman, and Qays bin Muhammad al-Qass, and he also mentioned Ata Khurasani, Yazid bin Abu Maryam, and Yunus bin Maysara bin Halabas, all of whom stated that Abu Idris heard it from Muaz. So giving preference to the narration of Zuhri over all of these is questionable.
