Ati reported, I went out with Shurahbil bin Simt to a village seventeen or eighteen miles away. He prayed two rakahs, so I asked him about it.He said, "I saw Umar pray two rakahs at Dhu al-Hulayfah, so I asked him about it."Umar replied, "I am only doing as I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do."
Muslim narrated it in Salat Musafirin (692) through several routes from Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi, who said, "Shubah narrated to us, from Yazid bin Khumayr, from Habib bin Ubayd, from Huyayr bin Nufayr," and he related the hadith. He also narrated it through the route of Muhammad bin Jafar, who said, "Shubah narrated to us" with this same chain, but he said, "from Ibn Samt," without naming Shurahbil, and he said that he came to a land called Dawmin, near Hims, at a distance of eighteen miles.
