I asked Ayesha about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said, "He used to pray thirteen rakahs. He would pray eight rakahs, then perform witr, then pray two rakahs while seated. When he wished to bow, he would stand up and bow."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Travelers' Prayer (73/126) from Muhammad bin Muthanna, who said, Ibn Adi narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us, from Yahya, from Abu Salama, who mentioned it.As for what has been narrated from Umm Salama that the Prophet ﷺ used to pray two rakahs after Witr while sitting, the correct view is that this was Umm Salama's own action, as Aqeeli stated in Daifa. This hadith was narrated by Tirmidhi (471) and Ibn Majah (1195), both from Muhammad bin Bashshar, who said, Hammad bin Masada narrated to us, who said, Maymun bin Musa Marai narrated to us, from Hasan, from his mother, from Umm Salama, who mentioned it.Maymun bin Musa has been criticized by Nasai and Abu Ahmad Hakim, and Saji said he used to practice tadlis. Ibn Hibban said he narrates unfamiliar hadiths, transmitting from trustworthy narrators things that do not resemble the hadiths of reliable transmitters, and his narrations cannot be relied upon when he narrates alone. Abu Hatim and Abu Dawud regarded him as acceptable. Moreover, the chain includes Hasan, who is a mudallis and has used the ambiguous form "an" in his narration. His mother's name was Khayrah, and she was a freed servant of Umm Salama. Ibn Hibban mentioned her among the trustworthy narrators, and Ibn Hazm declared her reliable.
