The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Witr at every part of the night, at its beginning, its middle, and finally his Witr settled at the time before dawn.
من كل الليل قد أوتر رسول الله ﷺ من أوله، وأوسطه وانتهى وتره إلى السحر.
Ibn Majah (1186) narrated it from the hadith of Shuba, from Abu Ishaq, from Asim bin Damra, from Ali bin Abu Talib, who mentioned it. Its isnad is hasan because of Asim, whose hadith is hasan. Ibn Khuzayma (1080) graded it sahih and narrated it through this same route. As for what has been narrated from Abu Masud Uqba bin Amr Ansari, who said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray Witr in the early part of the night, the middle of it, and the end of it," this chain is disconnected. It was narrated by Imam Ahmad (17071), and by Tabarani in Mujam al-Kabir (679, 680/17), Mujam al-Awsat (6985), and Mujam al-Saghir (686), all of them through various routes from Ibrahim bin Yazid Nakhai, from Abu Abdullah Jadali, from Abu Masud, who mentioned it.Shuba said, "Ibrahim Nakhai did not hear from Abu Abdullah Jadali."
