Malik narrated it in the chapter on night prayer from Muhammad bin Munkadir, from Saeed bin Jubayr, from a man of acceptable standing, that he informed him that Ayesha had told him, and then he related the hadith.Abu Dawud (1314) and Nasai (1785) both narrated it, both by way of Malik, in the same manner. Its chain is hasan. The unnamed man has been described as of acceptable standing, but the sound view on this matter is that the endorsement of an unnamed narrator cannot be accepted until he is named. We find that this man of acceptable standing is Aswad bin Yazid, as Nasai narrated (1786) from Abu Dawud, who said, Muhammad bin Sulayman told us, who said, Abu Jafar Razi told us, from Muhammad bin Munkadir, from Saeed bin Jubayr, from Aswad bin Yazid, from Ayesha, and then he related the hadith.Aswad bin Yazid Nakhai is a trustworthy narrator, a prolific transmitter, and a jurist. However, Nasai said, Abu Jafar Razi is not strong in hadith. What appears to be the case is that the sound version among these chains is the one containing the unnamed man, given that his own student Saeed bin Jubayr vouched for him, and we have established that he is Aswad bin Yazid. The narration of Abu Jafar Razi, despite his weakness, strengthens this likelihood.Ibn Abu Dunya also narrated it in his Kitab Tahajjud (206), by way of Abu Dawud Tayalisi. It appears in his Musnad (1527), from Warqa, from Muhammad bin Munkadir, from Saeed bin Jubayr, from Ayesha, relating something similar. This chain contains a break, for Saeed bin Jubayr did not hear directly from Ayesha.Munziri mentioned it in Targhib wal-Tarhib and attributed it to Ibn Abu Dunya, saying, "Its chain is good, and its narrators are relied upon in the sahih collections."
