I asked Ayesha, "How was the recitation of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at night? Did he recite aloud or silently?"She replied, "He used to do all of that. Sometimes he recited aloud, and sometimes he recited silently."
سألت عائشة: كيف كان قراءة رسول الله ﷺ بالليل يجهر أم يسر؟ قالت: كل ذلك قد كان يفعل ربما جهر، وربما أسر.
Nasai (1662), Ibn Khuzayma (1160), and Hakim (1/310) all narrated it from the hadith of Muawiya bin Salih, from Abdullah bin Abu Qays, and he related it.Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim."I say, its chain is hasan because of Muawiya bin Salih, who is the son of Hudayr, and he is hasan al-hadith. Bahr bin Nasr, one of the teachers of Ibn Khuzayma, added, Praise be to Allah who has made ease in the matter.Abdullah bin Abu Qays asked Ayesha about several things, among them, how many units did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray for his witr prayer, and among them, about the sleep of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a state of janaba, whether he would wash before sleeping. Every hadith has been mentioned in its proper place. It is a sahih hadith. Muslim recorded part of it (307), as did Ahmad (24453) and the authors of the Sunan works.
