The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever stands in prayer with ten verses will not be recorded among the heedless. Whoever stands in prayer with a hundred verses will be recorded among the devoutly obedient. And whoever stands in prayer with a thousand verses will be recorded among those who have amassed a great reward."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: من قام بعشر آيات لم يكتب من الغافلين، ومن قام بمائة آية كتب من القانتين، ومن قام بألف آية كتب من المقنطرين.
Abu Dawud (1398) narrated it from Ahmad bin Salih, who said, Ibn Wahb told us, Amr informed us, that Abu Suwayya told him that he heard Ibn Hujayra reporting from Abdullah bin Amr bin As, and he mentioned the hadith. Abu Dawud said, "Ibn Hujayra the Younger is Abdullah bin Abdul-Rahman bin Hujayra." Ibn Khuzayma (1144) and Ibn Hibban (2572) both graded it sahih, both from the hadith of Ibn Wahb through the same route, in similar wording. Its chain is hasan because of Abu Suwayya, whose name is Ubayd bin Suwaya bin Abu Suwaya, also called Abu Suwayd Misri. Ibn Hibban said, "Abu Suwayd's name is Humayd bin Suwayd, from the people of Egypt, and whoever said Abu Suwaya has erred." End of quote.I say, it is not as he said, for most scholars hold that he is Ibn Suwaya, and he has a detailed biography in al-Tahdhib. Ibn Makula said, "He was virtuous." Ibn Yunus said, "He was a righteous man who used to interpret the Quran." Abu Umayr Kindi said, "He was virtuous," then he traced with a chain that he died in the year 35, meaning after the hundred. I say, his hadith is hasan, and he is "truthful."Likewise, it is also reported from Tamim Dari, as a raised hadith, "Whoever recites a hundred verses in a night will not be recorded among the heedless." Ahmad (16958) and Darimi (3451) both narrated it through the route of Zayd bin Waqid, from Sulayman bin Musa, from Kathir bin Mura, from Tamim Dari, who mentioned it. But there is a break in it, for Sulayman bin Musa, who is Ashdaq, did not meet Kathir bin Mura, and it has other chains, all of which are defective. There are other hadiths on this subject that will come up in the chapters on the virtues of the Quran.
