The Prophet ﷺ used to pray in the sheep pens before the mosque was built.
كان النبي ﷺ يصلي قبل أن يبنى المسجد في مرابض الغنم.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Wudu (234) and in the Book of Prayer (429), and Muslim in the Book of Mosques (10/524), both of them from the hadith of Shubah, who said, "Abu Tayah narrated to me, from Anas," and he related it.Marabid is the plural of marbad, which is a place where animals lie down. For sheep it corresponds to lying down for humans, kneeling for camels, and crouching for birds. This was noted by Nawawi.
