The Prophet ﷺ forbade a man to pray with his hands on his hips. In another narration, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade placing the hands on the hips during prayer.
عن النبي ﷺ أنه نهى أن يصلي الرجل مختصرا، وفي رواية: نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن الاختصار في الصلاة.
Bukhari narrated it in "Actions During Prayer" (1219) via Ayub, from Muhammad bin Sirin, from Abu Hurairah, who said, "The khasr was forbidden during prayer." Hisham (that is, Ibn Hassan) and Abu Hilal (that is, Muhammad bin Sulaym Rasibi) narrated it from Ibn Sirin, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophetﷺ. He also narrated it (1220) via Yahya, and Muslim narrated it in "Mosques" (545) via Abdullah bin Mubarak, Abu Khalid, and Abu Usama, all of them from Hisham bin Hassan, with this wording, "The Messenger of Allahﷺ forbade a man from praying with his hand on his hip." In Bukhari's version it reads, "It was forbidden for a man to pray with his hand on his hip."In Sunan Abu Dawud (947), via Hisham, "The Messenger of Allahﷺ forbade placing the hand on the hip during prayer." Abu Dawud said, this means placing one's hand on one's hip.As for what Isa bin Yunus narrated from Hisham, with this wording, "Placing the hand on the hip during prayer is the repose of the people of the Fire," this is munkar. Ibn Khuzayma narrated it (909), and from him Ibn Hibban (2286), from Ali bin Abdul-Rahman bin Mughira, who said, Abu Salih Harrani told us, who said, Isa bin Yunus told us the same. Isa bin Yunus narrated it alone. Although he is trustworthy, he contradicted a group of trustworthy narrators who transmitted from Hisham bin Hassan as mentioned above. It also has another flaw, which is the dropping of a narrator from its chain between him and Hisham, namely Abdullah bin Azwar, as Tabarani recorded in "Al-Awsat" (6925, Dar al-Harmayn edition), where he said, "Only Ibn Azwar narrated it from Hisham. Isa narrated it alone."Dhahabi said in "Al-Mizan" (2/391), "Abdullah bin Azwar, from Hisham bin Hassan, with a munkar report." Azdi said, "Extremely daif. He has, from Hisham, from Muhammad, from Abu Hurairah, as a raised report, 'Placing the hand on the hip during prayer is the rest of the people of the Fire.'"Abdul-Razzaq (3342) and others narrated it from Mujahid as his own statement, not attributed to the Prophet.Al-ikhtisar (placing the hand on the hip) means that the person praying places his hand on his hip, as stated in Abu Dawud (947). And in Tirmidhi (383) it is reported that when Iblis walks, he walks with his hand on his hip.
