Malik narrated it in the chapter on congregational prayer (30), from Ibn Shihab, from Saeed bin Musayab, from Abu Hurairah, as mentioned. Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on prayer (358), and Muslim in the chapter on prayer (515), both through the route of Malik. Bukhari also narrated it (365) from Sulayman bin Harb, who said, Hammad bin Zayd told us, from Ayub, from Muhammad (that is, Ibn Sirin), from Abu Hurairah, who mentioned the like of it, and it contains, "Then a man asked Umar, and he said, 'When Allah grants abundance, then dress abundantly. Let a man gather his garments together.' A man might pray in a waist-wrap and a cloak, in a waist-wrap and a shirt, in a waist-wrap and a qaba, in trousers and a cloak, in trousers and a shirt, in trousers and a qaba, in short trousers and a qaba, in short trousers and a shirt." He said, "And I think he also said, in short trousers and a cloak." Muslim narrated it through the route of Ismail bin Ibrahim from Ayub, and confined himself to the part attributed to the Prophet, without mentioning Umar's statement.The statement of the Prophet ﷺ, "Or does not each of you have two garments," indicates the constrained circumstances they were in. Abu Hurairah said, "I saw seventy of the people of the Suffah, not one of them wearing a cloak, either a waist-wrap or a covering, which they tied around their necks. Some reached halfway down the shins, and some reached the ankles, and he would gather it with his hand, dreading that his private parts might be seen." Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on prayer (442) from Yusuf bin Isa, who said, Ibn Fudayl told us, from his father, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurairah, as mentioned.
