The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you prays toward a barrier, let him stand close to it, so that Satan does not cut off his prayer."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا صلى أحدكم إلى سترة فليدن منها، لا يقطع الشيطان عليه صلاته.
Abu Dawud (695) and Nasai (748) both narrated it through the route of Sufyan, from Safwan bin Salim, from Nafi bin Jubayr, from Sahl bin Abu Hathma, and he mentioned the same, their wording being identical, except that Abu Dawud said, "traced back to the Prophet ﷺ." Its chain of transmission is sahih, and Ibn Khuzayma (803), Ibn Hibban (2373), and Hakim (1/251) graded it sahih, with Hakim saying, "Sahih according to the criteria of the two sheikhs." Abu Dawud found fault with it, saying, "Waqid bin Muhammad narrated it, from Safwan, from Muhammad bin Sahl, from his father, or from Muhammad bin Sahl, from the Prophet ﷺ. Some of them said, from Nafi bin Jubayr, from Sahl bin Saad, and there is disagreement regarding its chain of transmission." End of quote.Bayhaqi traced the chains in the narrations of these narrators, including one that Abu Dawud left out, which is the narration of Dawud bin Qays, from Nafi bin Jubayr, transmitted as a mursal report. He then said, "Sufyan bin Uyayna established its chain of transmission soundly, and he is a hafiz and an authority." With this, the defect that Abu Dawud raised is refuted, and the hadith is confirmed as sahih.
