I heard my father say that the Prophet ﷺ led them in prayer at al-Batha with a short spear planted in front of him. He prayed two units for Dhuhr and two units for Asr, and women and donkeys would pass in front of him.
سمعت أبي أن النبي ﷺ صلى بهم بالبطحاء- وبين يديه عنزة- الظهر ركعتين، والعصر ركعتين، تمر بين يديه المرأة والحمار.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Prayer (495) from Abu Walid, who said, Shuba narrated to us, from Awn bin Abu Juhayfa, mentioning something similar. He also narrated it (376), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Prayer (503), by way of Umar bin Abu Zaida, who said, Awn bin Abu Juhayfa narrated to us, in a long hadith that has already been cited in the Book of Purification, in the chapter on using leftover wudu water. His saying, "in front of him," means before him, after the spear.
