"I have made supplications that I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, 'O Allah, by Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over creation, keep me alive so long as You know that life is best for me, and take me to You when You know that death is best for me. O Allah, I ask You for fear of You in private and in public. I ask You for the word of truth in moments of anger and contentment. I ask You for moderation in poverty and in wealth. I ask You for blessings that never end and joy of the eye that never ceases. I ask You for contentment after Your decree. I ask You for the coolness of life after death. I ask You for the delight of gazing upon Your face and the longing to meet You, without any harmful affliction or misleading trial. O Allah, adorn us with the beauty of faith, and make us guides who are rightly guided.'"
Narrated by Nasai (1305), and Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih in Tawhid (14), and from him Ibn Hibban in his Sahih (1971), and Hakim (1/524), and Bayhaqi in Asma wa Sifat (227), and Darimi in Radd Ali Jahmiya (188), all of them from the hadith of Hammad bin Zayd, from Ata bin Saaib, from his father, who said, "Ammar bin Yasir led us in prayer one day and made it brief. Some of the people said, 'You have shortened it,' or words to that effect. He said, 'I offered supplications that I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'"He said, "When Ammar left, a man followed him, my father, and asked him about the supplication. Then he came and told us about it." And he related the hadith. Its chain is sahih. Ata bin Saaib is trustworthy, the leading scholars affirmed his reliability, though his memory became confused later in life. However, Hammad bin Zayd's narration from him predates that confusion.
