The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you prays, let him place a barrier in front of him for his prayer, even if it be only an arrow."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا صلى أحدكم فليستتر لصلاته، ولو بسهم.
Ahmad (15340, 15342), Abu Yaala (941), Ibn Khuzayma (810), Tabarani in Al-Kabir (6542), and Hakim (1/252) all narrated it, all of them through routes going back to Abdul-Malik bin Rabi bin Sabra, from his father, from his grandfather, who said, and then he related it.The name Abdul-Malik bin Rabi was corrupted in Ibn Khuzayma's version, where it says, "Abdul-Malik, that is, the son of Abdul-Aziz bin Sabra," and in Hakim's version it says, "Abdul-Malik bin Abdul-Aziz bin Rabi bin Sabra." The correct form is "Abdul-Malik bin Rabi bin Sabra bin Mabad Juhani."Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Abdul-Malik bin Rabi bin Sabra Juhani. A group of narrators reported from him, Ajli deemed him trustworthy, and Dhahabi said, "Truthful, Allah willing." Muslim included a report from him as a corroborating narration. It has also been reported from Ibn Main that he weakened him, but this is an unspecific criticism, and for this reason the Hafiz was satisfied with Ajli's assessment of him as trustworthy. Tirmidhi graded his hadith sahih, namely, "When a boy reaches seven years of age, he is commanded to pray..." and Hakim graded it sahih according to the criterion of Muslim. A narrator of this standing has his hadith graded hasan, especially when it has sound foundations, and this is one such case.
