Two prayers the Messenger of Allah ﷺ never abandoned, neither in private nor in public, two rakahs before the dawn prayer and two rakahs after the afternoon prayer.
ركعتان لم يكن رسول الله ﷺ يدعهما سرا ولا علانية، ركعتان قبل صلاة الصبح، وركعتان بعد العصر.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Prayer Times (592), and Muslim in the Book of Travelers (835), both through the route of Abu Ishaq Shaybani, from Abdul-Rahman bin Aswad, from his father, from Ayesha, who mentioned the like of it.And through Shubah, from Abu Ishaq, who said, I saw Aswad and Masruq testify about Ayesha that she said, "The Prophet ﷺ never came to me on any day after Asr without praying two rak'ahs." The two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) related it through the route of Shubah.In another narration found in both of them, through the route of Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from her, she said, "Nephew, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ never neglected the two prostrations after Asr in my presence, not even once."And in a narration found in Bukhari (590), through another route, she said, "The Prophet ﷺ used to pray them, but he would not pray them in the masjid, for fear that it would become burdensome for his nation, and he loved whatever made things easier for them."
