Aishah said, "The Prophet ﷺ used to make the two rakahs before the dawn prayer so brief that I would wonder whether he had even recited the Opening of the Book or not."
كان النبي ﷺ يحفف الركعتين اللتين قبل صلاة الصبح حتى إني لأقول: هل قرأ بأم الكتاب أم لا؟
Bukhari narrated it in Tahajjud (1171), and Muslim in Musafirin (92/724), both via Yahya bin Saeed, who said, "Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman informed me that he heard Amra narrating from Ayesha," and he then related the hadith.Malik narrated it in Salat al-Layl (30) from Yahya bin Saeed, from Ayesha, dropping two narrators from the chain.In the narration of Shuba, found in both of them, it comes from Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman, from his paternal aunt Amra, with the same wording. Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman is Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Saad bin Zurara. Amra is the daughter of Abdul-Rahman bin Saad bin Zurara, making her the paternal aunt of his father, according to the correct view.In Bukhari (1170), via Malik, from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Ayesha, she said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray thirteen rakats at night, then when he heard the call for Fajr he would pray two light rakats."
