I asked Ayesha about the voluntary prayers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.She said, "He used to pray four units in my house before the noon prayer, then he would go out and lead the people in prayer, then he would come back in and pray two units. He would lead the people in the sunset prayer, then come in and pray two units. He would lead the people in the night prayer, then enter my house and pray two units. During the night he would pray nine units, including the witr. He would pray for a long time standing and for a long time sitting. When he recited while standing, he would bow and prostrate from the standing position, and when he recited sitting, he would bow and prostrate from the sitting position. When dawn broke, he would pray two units."
Muslim narrated it in Salat al-Musafirin (730) from Yahya bin Yahya, who said, Hushaym informed us, from Khalid, from Abdullah bin Shaqiq, and he mentioned it.Bukhari narrated it in Tahajjud (1182) from Musaddad, who said, Yahya narrated to us, from Shubah, from Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Muntashir, from his father, from Ayesha, that the Prophet ﷺ never used to give up four rakahs before Dhuhr and two rakahs before dawn.
