Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Marriage (5238), and Muslim in the Book of Prayer (442), both through the route of Sufyan bin Uyayna, from Zuhri, from Salim, from his father, and he related it. Hanzala qualified it in his narration from Salim with "at night." Bukhari narrated it (865) from Ubaydullah bin Musa, from him, but most of the narrators from Hanzala did not mention his words "at night," as Muslim narrated it from Ibn Numayr, from his father, from Hanzala.Muslim also narrated it through the route of Abu Muawiya, from Amash, from Mujahid, from Ibn Umar, who said, the Messenger of Allah said, "Do not prevent women from going out to the mosques at night." A son of Abdullah bin Umar then said, "We will not let them go out, for they would use it as a cover for mischief." Ibn Umar rebuked him and said, "I say, the Messenger of Allah said, and you say, we will not let them?" In another version, he struck him on the chest and said, "I tell you of the Messenger of Allah, and you say no?"This son's name was Bilal, as mentioned by Kaab bin Alqama, from him, from his father, who said, the Messenger of Allah said, "Do not prevent women from their share of the mosques when they ask your permission." Bilal bin Abdullah bin Umar then said, "By Allah, we will prevent them." Abdullah said to him, "I say, the Messenger of Allah said, and you say, we will prevent them?" Muslim narrated it through his route.
