A man prayed alone behind the row, so the Prophet ﷺ ordered him to repeat the prayer.
أن رجلا صلى خلف الصف وحده، فأمره النبي ﷺ أن يعيد الصلاة.
Abu Dawud (682) and Tirmidhi (231) both narrated it through Shuba, from Amr bin Mura, from Hilal bin Yasaf, from Amr bin Rashid, from Wabisa bin Mabad, and he related the hadith. There is disagreement regarding the chain from Wabisa. Some said, the hadith of Amr bin Mura, from Hilal bin Yasaf, from Amr bin Rashid, from Wabisa, is more sahih. Others said, the hadith of Husayn, from Hilal bin Yasaf, from Ziyad bin Abu Jaad, from Wabisa bin Mabad, is more sahih.Tirmidhi said, after relating this disagreement, "This is, in my view, more sahih than the hadith of Amr bin Mura, because it has been narrated through a route other than that of Hilal bin Yasaf, from Ziyad bin Abu Jaad, from Wabisa." End of quote. The hadith of Ziyad bin Abu Jaad was narrated by Tirmidhi (230) and Ibn Majah (1004), both through Husayn, from Hilal bin Yasaf, who said, "Ziyad bin Abu Jaad took me by the hand, while we were in Raqqah, and stood with me before an old man called Wabisa bin Mabad, from Banu Assad. Ziyad said, 'This old man told me, while he was listening, that a man had prayed behind the row alone, and the Messenger of Allahﷺ ordered him to repeat the prayer.'"Bayhaqi (3/104) said, after narrating from Amr bin Mura, "Husayn bin Abdul-Rahman differed from him, narrating it from Hilal bin Yasaf." He then narrated, through his route, from Ziyad bin Abu Jaad, as related above.I say, this chain is hasan, for Ziyad bin Abu Jaad al-Kufi narrated from Amr bin Harith and Wabisa, and from him his brother Ubayd and Hilal narrated. Ibn Hibban deemed him trustworthy, and Tirmidhi graded his hadith hasan, which serves as a validation of him, especially since he has been corroborated as in the previous chain, even though that chain contains Amr bin Rashid al-Ashjai, who is unknown. Al-Hafiz placed him at the rank of "acceptable," and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih and included it in his Sahih (2200).Ziyad bin Abu Jaad is at the rank of "acceptable" because he was corroborated, since Hilal bin Yasaf was present at the gathering when Ziyad bin Abu Jaad recited the hadith to Wabisa, and Wabisa confirmed what was recited to him. Thus Hilal bin Yasaf was among those who heard the hadith by direct recitation to the shaykh. This is why Tirmidhi said, "This is, in my view, more sahih than the hadith of Amr bin Mura."Ibn Hibban said, "Hilal bin Yasaf heard this report from Amr bin Rashid, from Wabisa bin Mabad, and he also heard it from Ziyad bin Abu Jaad, from Wabisa, and both routes are preserved." (5/57)What is narrated from Muqatil bin Hayan, who said that the Prophetﷺ said, "If a man comes and finds no one, let him pull someone from the row to stand with him, for how great is the reward of the one who is pulled," is not sahih, because it is mursal. Abu Dawud narrated it in Marasil (83) from Hasan bin Ali, "Yazid bin Harun narrated to us, Hajjaj bin Hassan informed us, from Muqatil bin Hayan," and he related something similar. Bayhaqi narrated it (3/105) from Abu Dawud.Likewise, what is narrated from Shaybi, from Wabisa, with the addition that the Messenger of Allahﷺ saw a man praying behind the rows alone and said, "You who are praying alone, why did you not join the row, or pull someone toward you to stand with you? Repeat the prayer," is daif. Bayhaqi narrated it (3/105) and said, "Sari bin Ismail alone narrated it, and he is daif."Haythami said in Majma al-Zawaid (2/96), after attributing it to Abu Yaala, "It contains Sari bin Ismail, who is daif." Al-Hafiz said in Taqrib, "Discarded," and this is correct. Ahmad said of him, "People have abandoned his hadith." Abu Hatim said, "Gone." Abu Dawud said, "Daif, his hadith is discarded." Nasai said, "His hadith is discarded."This addition has been narrated through other chains, but they are all extremely weak. Something similar has also been narrated from Ibn Abbas and Abu Hurairah, but all of it is daif, and nothing among it is established. See Majma al-Zawaid (2/96).
