Ibn Abbas reported, "I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the last part of the night and prayed behind him. He took my hand and pulled me forward, placing me beside him. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned his attention to his prayer, I drew back. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued his prayer, and when he had finished, he said to me, 'What is the matter with me that I place you beside me and you draw back?'I replied, 'Messenger of Allah, should anyone pray beside you when you are the Messenger of Allah, whom Allah has favored so greatly?'"He said, "This pleased him, and he prayed to Allah to increase me in knowledge and understanding."He continued, "Then I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sleep until I heard him breathing deeply. Then Bilal came to him and said, 'Messenger of Allah, the prayer.' He stood up and prayed without renewing his ablution."
أتيت رسول الله ﷺ من آخر الليل، فصليت خلفه، فأخذ بيدي، فجرني، فجعلني حذاءه، فلما أقبل رسول الله ﷺ على صلاته، خنست، فصلى رسول الله ﷺ، فلما انصرف، قال لي: ما شأني أجعلك حذائي فتخنس؟ فقلت: يا رسول الله، أو ينبغي لأحد أن يصلي حذاءك، وأنت رسول الله ﷺ الذي أعطاك الله! قال: فأعجبته، فدعا الله لي أن يزيدني علما وفهما، قال: ثم رأيت رسول الله ﷺ نام، حتى سمعته ينفخ، ثم أتاه بلال، فقال: يا رسول الله، الصلاة، فقام، فصلى، ما أعاد وضوءا.
Imam Ahmad (3060) narrated it from Abdullah bin Bakr, who said, Hatim bin Abu Saghira Abu Yunus narrated to us, from Amr bin Dinar, that Kurayb informed him, that Ibn Abbas said... then he related it. Its isnad is sahih, and its narrators are the narrators of the Jamaah. Bukhari titled a chapter with his words, "He stands to the right of the imam, level with him exactly, when they are two," except that he did not include this hadith, though it meets his standard.His statement "khanastu" means, I drew back.
