I never prayed behind anyone whose prayer was briefer yet more complete than the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was balanced in its parts, and the prayer of Abu Bakr was likewise balanced. When Umar bin Khattab came, he lengthened the dawn prayer.When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah hears whoever praises Him," he would stand so long that we would say, "He has forgotten." Then he would prostrate and sit between the two prostrations so long that we would say, "He has forgotten."
ما صليت خلف أحد أوجز صلاة من صلاة رسول الله ﷺ في تمام، كانت صلاة رسول الله ﷺ متقاربة. من وكانت صلاة أبي بكر متقاربة، فلما كان عمر بن الخطاب مد في صلاة الفجر، وكان رسول ﷺ إذا قال: سمع الله لمن حمده قام حتى نقول: قد أوهم، ثم يسجد ويقعد بين السجدتين حتى نقول: قد أوهم.
Muslim narrated it in the book of Prayer (473), from Abu Bakr bin Nafi Abdi, from Bahz, from Hammad, from Thabit, from Anas, as mentioned above.Imam Ahmad also narrated it (12116), from Ismail bin Ulaya, from Humayd, from Anas, in abbreviated form, with the wording, "The prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was of moderate length, and so was the prayer of Abu Bakr, until Umar prolonged the morning prayer."
