A Jewish woman came to visit Ayesha and mentioned the punishment of the grave, saying to her, "May Allah protect you from the punishment of the grave."Ayesha then asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the punishment of the grave, and he replied, "Yes, the punishment of the grave is real."Ayesha said, "After that, I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform a prayer without seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave."
إن يهودية دخلت عليها، فذكرت عذاب القبر، فقالت لها: أعاذك الله من عذاب القبر، فسألت عائشة رسول الله ﷺ عن عذاب القبر فقال: نعم، عذاب القبر حق. قالت عائشة: فما رأيت رسول الله ﷺ بعد صلى إلا تعوذ من عذاب القبر.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Funerals (1372), and Muslim in the Book of Mosques (586/126), both by way of Ashath, from his father, from Masruq, from Ayesha, who related the same.In the narration of Abu Waail, from Masruq, from Ayesha, she said, "Two old women from among the old women of the Jews of Madinah came in to see me, and they said to me, 'The people in the graves are being punished in their graves.' I disbelieved them and did not readily accept that they were telling the truth, so they left. Then the Prophet ﷺ came in to see me, and I said to him, 'Messenger of Allah, two old women from Madinah came in to see me, and they claimed that the people in the graves are being punished in their graves.' He said, "They told the truth. They are being punished with a punishment that all the animals can hear."" She said, "After that, I never saw him pray without seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave."Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Supplications (6366), and Muslim in the Book of Mosques (586/125), both by way of Jareer, from Mansur, from Abu Waail, with this wording.
