He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard a man supplicating in his prayer without glorifying Allah and without sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This man has been hasty."Then he called him over and said to him, or to someone else, "When one of you prays, let him begin by glorifying his Lord and praising Him, then send blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, and after that he may supplicate for whatever he wishes."
يقول: سمع رسول الله ﷺ رجلا يدعو في صلاته، لم يمجد الله، ولم يصل على النبي ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ: عجل هذا ثم دعاه فقال له، أو لغيره: إذا صلى أحدكم فليبدأ بتمجيد ربه والثناء عليه، ثم يصلي على النبي ﷺ، ثم يدعو بعد بما شاء.
Abu Dawud (1481) and Tirmidhi (3477) both narrated it via Abdullah bin Yazid Muqri, who said, Haywa bin Shurayh narrated to us, Abu Hani Humayd bin Hani told me, that Abu Ali Amr bin Malik Janabi informed him, that he heard Fadala bin Ubayd, and he mentioned something similar. The wording given here is that of Abu Dawud, and its chain of transmission is sahih. Its narrators are the narrators of Muslim except for Amr bin Malik, who is nevertheless also trustworthy. Tirmidhi said, hasan sahih, and Ibn Khuzayma (710) and Hakim (1/230) both graded it sahih, both narrating via Muqri with the same wording.Nasai (1284) narrated it from Muhammad bin Salama, who said, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, from Abu Hani with the same chain, and in it, he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ hear a man supplicating in the prayer without praising Allah and without invoking blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You have been hasty, O worshipper." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught them, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard a man praying who glorified Allah, praised Him, and invoked blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Call and you will be answered, ask and you will be given."Tirmidhi (3476) also narrated it from Qutayba bin Saeed, who said, Rushdin bin Saad narrated to us, from Abu Hani with the same chain, and in it, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting, a man entered and prayed, then said, "O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You have been hasty, O worshipper. When you pray and then sit, praise Allah as He deserves, and invoke blessings upon me, then call upon Him." He said, then another man prayed after that, and he praised Allah and invoked blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, so the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "O worshipper, call and you will be answered." Tirmidhi said, hasan, then he pointed to the hadith of Haywa bin Shurayh.I say, Rushdin bin Saad, with the ra vowelled as i and the dal unvowelled, is daif. However, he is corroborated by Haywa bin Shurayh and Ibn Wahb, as has already passed, and they are also corroborated by Ahmad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Wahb Qurashi, from his uncle, who said, Abu Hani narrated to me something similar to this. Ibn Khuzayma (709) narrated it, and Ahmad bin Abdul-Rahman is daif, having declined in his later years, but there is no harm in citing him in corroborating narrations, and perhaps Tirmidhi graded the chain hasan on account of him.
