Some of the Prophet's companions came to him and asked, "We find within ourselves thoughts that any of us would consider too grave to even speak of."He said, "Have you really experienced that?"They replied, "Yes."He said, "That is pure faith."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Faith (132) from Zuhayr bin Harb, who said, Jareer related to us, from Suhayl bin Abu Salih, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it.Imam Ahmad (9876) and Ibn Manda in the Book of Faith (341) also narrated it, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (146), all of them by way of Shubah, from Asim bin Bahdala, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, that they said, "O Messenger of Allah, we find within ourselves something such that one of us would rather be a lump of charred coal than speak of it." He said, "That is pure faith."This chain of transmission is hasan because of Asim bin Bahdala, for his hadith is hasan.
