Abu Humayd, Abu Usayd, Sahl bin Saad, and Muhammad bin Maslama gathered together and discussed the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.Abu Humayd said, "I am the most knowledgeable among you about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."He then described the manner of the Messenger of Allah's prayer, saying, "He spread out his left foot, turned the front of his right foot toward the qiblah, placed his right palm on his right knee and his left palm on his left knee, and pointed with his finger," meaning the index finger.
اجتمع أبو حميد، وأبو أسيد، وسهل بن سعد، ومحمد بن مسلمة، فذكروا صلاة رسول الله ﷺ، فقال أبو حميد: أنا أعلمكم بصلاة رسول الله ﷺ، فذكر صفة صلاة رسول الله، وقال فيه: فافترش رجله اليسرى، وأقبل بصدر اليمنى على قبلته، ووضع كفه اليمنى على ركبته اليمنى، وكفه اليسرى على ركبته اليسرى، وأشار بإصبعه- يعني السبابة.
Narrated by Abu Dawud (734) and Tirmidhi (293), both by way of Abu Amir Aqadi, that is, Abdul-Malik bin Amr, "Fulayh bin Sulayman Madani informed me, Abbas bin Sahl narrated to us," and he related it. Tirmidhi said, hasan sahih. Ibn Khuzayma (689) and Ibn Hibban (1871) also graded it sahih, by way of Abu Amir Aqadi, with the same wording.I say, in the chain is Fulayh bin Sulayman bin Abu Mughira Khuzai, one of the narrators found in all the major collections, though he is disputed. Ibn Main and Abu Hatim said, he is not strong. Nasai said, daif. But Daraqutni said, he is disputed, and there is no harm in him. Ibn Adi said, he has sound and correct hadiths, as well as unusual ones, and in my view there is no harm in him. Ibn Hibban listed him among the trustworthy narrators. A narrator of this kind has his hadith strengthened when supported by corroboration.Among the partial corroborations of this hadith is what Abdul-Razzaq (3046) related from Ibrahim bin Muhammad, from Ibn Halhala, that is, Muhammad bin Amr bin Halhala Dayli, from Muhammad bin Amr bin Ata, from Abu Humayd Saadi, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he sat during prayer in the first two units, would set his right foot upright, spread out his left foot beneath him, and point with his finger next to the thumb.
