Some people asked the Prophet ﷺ about soothsayers. He replied, "They are nothing."They said, "Messenger of Allah, but sometimes they say things that turn out to be true."The Prophet ﷺ said, "That truthful word is something the jinni snatches and clucks into the ear of his ally like the clucking of a hen, and they mix it with more than a hundred lies."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Tawhid (7561), and Muslim in the Book of Salam (2228), both from the hadith of Ibn Shihab, who said, Yahya bin Urwa bin Zubayr told me that he heard Urwa bin Zubayr say, Ayesha said, and then he mentioned the hadith. The wording given is that of Bukhari, and Muslim's wording is similar.
